News is a form of communication that enables the people of a society to connect through a shared knowledge of current events and soon-to-be history. It gives us the opportunity to understand each other and become familiar with the world in which we live in.
The first form of journalism was a story told around a fire and spread throughout a village. The best journalists still know how to be storytellers. Yes, journalism is one way in which the people have power and a voice, but that voice is just white noise if it is not told in a way that is credible and engages the reader or listener. Good journalism is about more than getting the facts right—while that is important—it is about giving the people the chance to want to inform themselves.
Pronounced Karen but with an M, I’m from Cincinnati and studied creative writing at an arts HS. I enjoy teal rings and leather bound journals.
