News is the process of transmitting information from one small source to the general public. It is really a form of education, a much-needed part of society. Many people say that journalism is a "dying field" because they associate news with newspapers, which, obviously, are not as common today as they used to be. However, news touches everyone's lives in many different mediums. It is actually a thriving field in my opinion. News an essential part of communication in society; it is having the great power and responsibility to reach out to a vast community.
Good journalism is reminding yourself constantly of the responsibilities that your job entails. It is being able to reach out to the community in any medium possible. I believe that the field is thriving, but it is also ever-changing, and a good journalist always has to be on his/her toes to be able to roll with those changes. I think good journalism also means managing time well (calling sources on time, meeting deadlines, etc.) in such a fast-paced career. It is also knowing your boundaries--staying within your (first amendment) rights when publishing stories. Be smart!
