News is needed fact: that truth which is invaluable to society. Human interest essential; those realities which, known, have the power to change everything, those stories which are, not made. The important everyday: the articles and news packages and podcasts and radio segments which concern, and raise questions. Discussion-starters.

Good reporting of news is thorough investigation, copious note-taking, and intelligent, coherent analysis. Reporting well is listening well, thinking (excogitating) well, and writing well. And interpreting well: news is objective, but reporting prospective; stories have angles. A good article does what its writer intendeds it to, be it evoke or provoke or inform.
